# How to create a manual segment

You can create the manual segments for the following reasons:

When you want create it only specific students eg. family and friends, your old students from before using PracticeNow etc. 

||| Ensure that your students are registered on your student site before creating a segment

**Steps:**

1. **Students -> Segment -> New Segment** 
2. What type of Segment: **Select Manually add students by searching for them**
3. Search and add a student: Search for the student and click on **Add**
4. Save this segment as: Give a **name** that is relevant to this segment like "Old Students", "Family & Friends" etc
5. Click on **Create Segment** button
