Configure Zoom Cloud Recording for Classes

Overview

This guide explains how to configure Zoom cloud recording settings and enable automatic recording and sharing for your classes. These settings help ensure recordings are available to students while automatically managing your Zoom cloud storage.

Configure Default Zoom Cloud Recording Setting.

1. Open the Classes tab.
2. Click Zoom Recording Settings.

Configure the following settings:

Enable Zoom Cloud Recording Sharing

• Turn on Share Zoom Cloud Storage.

Select the Recording View

Under Zoom Cloud Recording, choose the recording layout that students will see.

You can choose from:

1. Active Speaker View or
2. Active Gallery view

Recommended option:

• Active Speaker View with Shared Screen

This provides the best viewing experience for most classes.

Enable Auto-Delete

Enable Auto-Delete to automatically remove recordings from your Zoom cloud storage after the specified number of days.
This helps:

• Prevent manual cleanup of recordings.
• Manage limited Zoom cloud storage efficiently.

Enable Auto Check-In [optional]

Turn on Auto Check-In to automatically mark student attendance when they watch a class recording.

5. Click Update to save your settings.

Configure Automatic Recording for a New Class

1. Navigate to Upcoming Classes.
2. Click Create Class.
3. Complete the class details.

Under Share Zoom Cloud Recording:

1. Enable Auto Scan

Turn on Auto Scan. This is what tells the system to process the videos from zoom

2. Automatically Start Cloud Recording

Enable Automatically Start Cloud Recording When This Class Starts.
This ensures recording begins automatically when the class starts, reducing the risk of forgetting to record. If this option is not enabled, the teacher can still manually start recording during the class.

3. Auto-Publish the recordings

This is automatically checked. It would mean that it would be automatically available for the eligible students to access the video recordings

If you uncheck it, the video recording will still be processed by the system, but it will not be available for your students to watch.

4. Set Auto-revoke

Specify how long the recording should remain available to students.

Recommended duration: short time period.
Since recordings are stored in Zoom cloud storage, keeping availability short helps conserve storage space.
Example:

• 2 days or 3 days etc

Verify Recording Settings

After creating the class, open the class details.

The following indicators should be visible in your Upcoming classes

• Auto Scan
• Auto Start Recording
• Auto Publish

These confirm that automatic recording and sharing have been configured successfully.

Update an Existing Class

To modify recording settings for an existing class:

1. Open Upcoming Classes.
2. Select the class.
3. Click Edit Class.
4. Choose Edit All Fields (including recurring classes, if applicable).

Update the following settings:

• Enable Auto Scan.
• Enable Automatically Start Cloud Recording.
• Set the recording availability period (for example, 1–2 days).

5. Click Update to save your changes.

Best Practices

• Use Active Speaker View with Shared Screen for the best student viewing experience.
• Enable Automatically Start Cloud Recording to avoid missing recordings.
• Keep recording availability to 1–2 days to conserve Zoom cloud storage.
• Enable Auto-Delete to automatically free up storage.
• Turn on Auto Check-In if you want students to receive attendance credit when watching recordings.

Result

Once these settings are configured:

• Classes are recorded automatically.
• Recordings are shared with students automatically.
• Student check-ins are tracked automatically (if enabled).
• Recordings are removed automatically after the configured retention period, helping manage Zoom cloud storage efficiently.
